Dining Services

Good nutrition supports great learning. 
Packer’s goal is to provide its students with well-balanced meals that support growth and development. Daily lunch is included with tuition in 3rd through 12th Grade and a morning snack is provided to all. We offer hot entrées and side dishes daily, including vegetarian options. Our salad bar and deli bar with greens and raw vegetables, prepared salads, no-nitrate cold cuts, hard-boiled eggs, organic yogurt, fresh fruit, raisins, sun dried cranberries are favorites of the Packer community.
 
The kitchen staff uses healthy and locally sourced, farm-friendly produce whenever possible to support sustainable suppliers. With a variety of daily offerings that will satisfy most dietary needs, including rBST-free milk, cage-free eggs and gluten-free products, students have opportunities to create meals tailored to them. For students with food allergies, allergens are prominently labeled on our daily menu boards. 

Students in Preschool through 2nd Grade bring lunch from home but enjoy fresh and pre-packaged snacks delivered to their classrooms. While all students in 3rd through 12th grade receive lunch at no additional cost, they are of course permitted to bring food from home, and a refrigerator and microwave are available for their use. 

In Grades 7 through 12, students may also carry in meals from their favorite local spots (several are listed on our interactive Campus Map) to eat with friends back in the Commons and Student Center.

Every week we receive deliveries of 1,800 eggs, 1,000 lbs of beef, chicken and pork combined, 100 gallons of milk, 75 lbs of coffee, and over 500 bananas!

Morning Snack provided

To provide a mid-morning boost, a morning snack is provided to all from 9:50 to 10:30 am daily.

Snacks include whole fruit, cereals, hormone free milk, and periodically items like carrot and celery sticks, cubed cheese and whole-wheat pretzels.

Afternoon Snack for purchase

Afternoon snack is available for purchase from 2:30 to 3:45 pm.

The snack consists of a daily special treat (usually hot) along with a variety of fruits, flavored seltzers, 100% fruit juice, and pre-packaged sweet and savory snack items.

Families can enjoy breakfast together in the Packer Commons daily from 7:30 to 9:15 am.

Our commitment to sustainability

Members of the Packer Community are asked to bring reusable water bottles to the Commons and to sort and recycle their refuse. On every Teacher Growth Tuesday, Packer’s Earth Club sponsors a cup-free day in the cafeteria. As part of the Department of Sanitation’s Organics Collection program, we send our food waste, and much of our lunchroom-container waste, for composting to McEnroe Farms in upstate New York.
