Cynthia Gardstein's Installation Remarks

Good evening, everyone. My name is Cynthia Gardstein and I am a proud member of Packer’s fabulous Class of 1966. Fun fact: Packer was an all-girls school — it was very different then! I’m glad I made it back.

I am also a Former Trustee, Former Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, and an emeritus member of Packer’s Alumni Association. Serving my alma mater has been, and continues to be, one of my life’s unexpected pleasures and gifts. Tonight, it is my very great honor to represent Packer’s esteemed alumni community to formally welcome and introduce Dr. Jennifer Weyburn as Packer’s tenth Head of School. And I do feel as though we are making a bit of history tonight, which makes this evening even richer.

Prior to her arrival at Packer, Dr. Weyburn served as the Director of Copenhagen International School and as deputy head of school at Shanghai American School.

Earlier in her career, she held both teaching and administrative positions at Atlanta International School, where she worked for ten years. Jen has a very impressive list of credentials educationally. She holds a doctorate degree in educational leadership and policy from Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College, a Master of Arts degree in English education from Columbia University Teachers College, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University. She was raised just a little way up the Hudson River, in Dobbs Ferry, New York.

Jen now lives in Brooklyn Heights with her husband Garrett and children, son Will, Class of 2024 — mind-boggling! — and daughter Louise, Class of 2026 — even more mind-boggling!

Friends of Packer, it is now my honor to present to you, our new Head of School (and lead Pelican), Dr. Jennifer Weyburn.
