Parents In Action Talks for 4th and 8th Grades: Mon, April 29 & Mon, May 13

4th and 8th Grade families, please mark your calendars for upcoming Parent Talks facilitated by NYC-Parents In Action, an independent, non-profit organization that works to increase communication among parents. Connect with other parents in your child's grade and discuss common parenting issues, concerns, and strategies. All topics covered will be generated by parents, and facilitators are trained in techniques which create a safe space for parents to talk. The 4th Grade Parent Talk will occur on Monday, April 29 from 8:30 to 10 am and the 8th Grade Parent Talk will be on Monday, May 13 from 8:15 to 9:45 am. Please look for an invitation with further details, including locations for talks, from your class or grade reps.

Book Fair: Wed, May 1 through Fri, May 3 from 8 am to 4 pm (2nd Floor Gym)

The annual Book Fair is coming!

  • Volunteer here to help with set up, sales, and more!
  • Donate used children's books in the bin located in the Front Hall from Monday, April 8 to the Friday, April 26.
  • Purchase a book plate here and dedicate it to your favorite student, all helping to build the library's collection.

New this year:

Sip and Shop Event: From 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, April 30, join us at this adults-only event (just don't tell the kids!). Shop and mingle (with a glass of wine in hand) with our beloved librarians, enter the raffle to win a private author reading or $100 in curated books, or buy one of Dr. Dennis' recommended books. Childcare will be provided (a registration link will come shortly).

Spending Limits will be Pre-AuthorizedWe are providing a new convenience for families this year — by adding a pre-authorization amount of $10 for every Lower and Middle School student. You can make changes to your child's spending limit (including reducing it to $0) by filling out the Packer Book Fair Spending Limits Form before Friday, April 19. You will only be charged for the amount spent at the book fair — not the authorization amount.

If you miss the deadline to de-authorize the automatic $10 spending limit and your child spends the $10 on his/her account and this charge is financially burdensome, please email Controller Romina Ros to remove the charge. Families who receive Financial Aid should submit their receipts for required Summer Reading books to Romina Ros for reimbursement.

Sustainability at Packer

Doing some early spring closet cleaning? Keep functional and valuable materials out of landfills by making use of the convenient donation and recycling services now available at Packer. Thanks to Packer's Sustainability Team, we now have two donation containers from the NYC Department of Sanitation Zero Waste Initiative, refashionNYC (one container is located on the Garden level, across from the PA room and the other is on the 3rd floor of Little Packer). All donations must be bagged and may include the following:

  • Children, women, and men's clothing
  • Shoes and accessories (e.g., purses, gloves, scarves, hats and belts)
  • Towels, curtains, bedding, linens, clean rags

Donated items are distributed by Housing Works. Tax receipts are available. Read more about the Packer's Sustainability Team and their commitment to addressing and reducing environmental impact.
