Dear Packer Community,

I am writing to update you on the progress of our Head of School search. As you know, our consultants from Carney Sandoe visited the School on February 22 and 23 and met with faculty, students, administrators and staff, parents, alumni, and the Board of Trustees. The purpose of the visit was to hear everyone's views on what the Search Committee should be seeking in a new head. A survey was also sent to the same constituencies for their thoughts and seeking their nominations for the position. Just before Spring Break, the Search Committee met to finalize the Position Opportunity Statement, which has now been distributed widely by Carney Sandoe to possible candidates around the country and the world and is posted at www.packer.edu/headsearch.

At this point, the search enters a "quiet phase," while the consultants reach out to sources, and recruit and interview candidates. Later, the Search Committee will select candidates to interview, based on the criteria established. The current timeline, which our online FAQs describe in more detail, projects that final candidates will visit the School to meet with the community in the early fall. However, the timeline is flexible so that, if circumstances dictate, we may lengthen or shorten it. The ultimate goal is to find the candidate who is the best fit for Packer.

Our consultants inform us that the position has attracted an unusually large number of qualified candidates. People in the independent school realm and more generally admire the strength of Packer and see great opportunity for further development of the School. Once again, we are very grateful for Dr. Bruce Dennis's strong leadership and the gifts that the entire community brings to Packer; these are readily apparent to the world outside our Brooklyn campus.

As always, I welcome any thoughts or questions you may have.

Kind regards,

Ronan P. Harty
