Into the Woods Delivers a Multilayered Take on Familiar Fairy Tales

Packer's Upper School students performed Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's award-winning musical Into the Woods in the Pratt Theater Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27, 2019.

In Into the Woods, a new fairy tale about a childless baker and his wife is interwoven with the familiar stories of Cinderella, Jack and the Beanstalk, Little Red Riding Hood, and Rapunzel. When these worlds collide, chaos ensues, the norms of story-telling are destroyed, and Giants come to stalk the land. Both funny and suggesting seriousness, as all good stories are, and packed with thrilling music, Into the Woods has delighted audiences since its original production in 1987 that won Tony Awards for both book and score.
