How to Apply

Almost every step of the process begins with logging into your child's account in Ravenna, our online application tool. 

Our procedures vary depending on the grade to which you apply. The lists below walk you through the recommended and required application steps for that grade.   

Procedures for Fall 2019 Admission

PreK3 and PreK4

Applicants to our Pre-K Threes program must be 3 years old by June 30, 2019.

To begin the application process, families must create an account in Ravenna at www.ravenna-hub.com

Through Ravenna, you will be able to start the application process, register for a Preschool Open House, email teacher recommendation forms directly to your students’ teachers, submit all admissions materials, check the status of your application, and receive admissions decisions. 

Note: Your Ravenna login and password are your gateway to the entire application process, so please keep this information handy.

Register for an Open House (Fall)

We encourage PreK3 applicant families to visit Packer at an Open House in the fall. You will have an opportunity to tour the Packer Early Learning Center and meet with Packer faculty and administrators.

Open Houses begin promptly at 8:30 am and conclude at 9:45 am. These are for parents/guardians only.

Open House dates for 2018 will be posted in the summer. Register for an Open House via Ravenna.

Note: Open Houses for the Pre-K Fours are not available as Pre-K Four is not an entry year.

Submit Preliminary Application, Parent Essay, and Fee (by Mon Dec 3)

Create a Ravenna account and complete the online application. Once your Preliminary Application, Parent Essay, and non-refundable payment of $125 are submitted, your application will automatically be entered into the lottery pool. 

Due: December 3, 2018. If necessary, we reserve the right to close applications before this date. 

Notification

In early December, Packer will select by lottery a limited number of applicants proportionate to the number of spaces available. These families will be notified via Ravenna and invited to participate in our Playgroup Interviews in January. 

Come in for a Playgroup Interview (January)

Families that are selected via our lottery in December will be invited to participate in our Playgroup Interviews, which take place in January. 

Optional: Upload a Photograph

To help us remember your visit, we would gratefully appreciate a current photograph of your child (uploaded to Ravenna). It will not be used for selection purposes.

Receive Notification (by Thurs Feb 28)

Our decisions will be sent out to families via Ravenna on NEED DATE.

Note: Notification is given only to candidates who were interviewed and whose files are complete.

Submit Your Enrollment Contract (by Fri Mar 8)

Families’ enrollment decisions for Pre-K Threes and Pre-K Fours are due by noon on NEED DATE.

Submit ISAAGNY Confidential Information Sheet and School Records (by Mon Jan 7)

Fill out the required information in Ravenna to send the ISAAGNY (Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York) report to your child's current teacher. 

Due date for completed form from child’s teacher: Monday, January 7, 2019.

Once your complete application is received, your child will be placed on the waiting list. 

If a space in PreK4 becomes available, we will contact families to schedule an in-person interview.

Receive Notification (by Thurs Feb 28)

If you wish to apply for financial aid, please visit Affording Packer for guidelines. 

The online application must be submitted to School & Student Services (SSS), a third-party organization that helps calculate an appropriate award as well as verify tax information.

Schedule an Interview

Parent(s) and child should attend the interview appointment. The interview will take approximately one hour: half an hour with the child and half an hour with the parent(s.) During the parent interview, the child will be supervised in our reception area.

Receive Notification (by Fri Feb 8)

Our decisions will be sent out to families via Ravenna on Friday, February 8, 2019.

Families’ enrollment decisions for Kindergarten are due by noon on Friday, February 15, 2019.

Lower School

Open spaces in Grades 1 through 4 are very limited. Applications for these grades are automatically placed in an active wait-pool. Interviews will be conducted as spaces become available.

By August 31, 2019, applicants for...
1st Grade must be 6 years old.
2nd Grade must be 7 years old.
3rd Grade must be 8 years old.
4th Grade must be 9 years old.

2nd-4th Gr only: Take Standardized Test and Submit Scores (by Thurs Jan 31)

For 1st Grade applicants: Packer neither requires nor accepts standardized test scores. 

For 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Grade* applicants: All applicants must take either the the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or The Early Childhood Admission Assessment (ECAA). We recommend scheduling the test in the fall or early winter to ensure that we receive the scores by the end of January 2019. 

*New 4th Grade applicants only: Packer also accepts the Elementary SSAT instead of the ECAA or ISEE. 

Due: For applicants to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Grade, we must receive test scores by Thursday, January 31

Reactivating an Application?

Submit Preliminary Application and Fee (by Mon Dec 3)

We ask that the parent(s)/guardian(s) fill out the initial part of the application, which consists of biographical information and some short answer questions, by Monday, December 3.  

Packer will not charge Middle School applicants the $60 application fee unless they are invited for an interview. Note: This fee is reduced to $30 for families who are applying for financial aid.

Register for a Middle School Group Tour (Fall)

Packer hosts two Middle School Tours for prospective families in the fall of 2018. Since there are no opportunities to tour during the interview process, please take advantage of our two fall Tours.

To register for a Middle School Group Tour, log into Ravenna and reserve a space. Spaces may be limited. 

Note: You do not need to apply to Packer to attend a group tour, nor do you need to attend a group tour to apply.

We do not prefer one test over the other — we view both equally. 

Note: We must receive the applicant’s test scores by Monday, December 3, in order for the application to be considered complete. 

Submit the Student Essay (by Mon Dec 3)

This is your opportunity to share more about who you are and what makes you unique. Please complete the form within Ravenna without help from anyone (parents, guardians, teachers, etc.).

Submit Teacher Evaluations (by Mon Dec 3)

Applicants must submit teacher evaluation forms from both their current math and English teachers. Evaluation forms can be sent straight to their teachers through Ravenna. Please give your teachers notice early so they can complete the forms before the application deadline.

Submit School Transcripts (by Mon Dec 3)

School transcripts are required admissions materials.  Applicants must submit a full-year transcript from the previous academic year as well as the first-term/fall transcript from the current academic year. Please ask your child's current school to upload transcripts directly to Ravenna.

Come to Packer for an Interview (January)

To be considered for an interview, applicants must complete the full application for our review, which includes the student essay, transcript, teachers recommendations, and test scores.

Should the Admissions Office decide to interview the applicant, our office will reach out to the family to schedule an interview, which is typically in January. 

At the interview, an admission officer will have a one-on-one conversation with the applicant, then bring in the parents/guardians for a short chat and to answer any questions. No preparation is needed for the interview.

To register for an Upper School Open House, log into Ravenna and reserve a space. Spaces may be limited. Please register for only one Open House so that we can accommodate as many families as possible. Note: You do not need to apply to Packer in order to attend an Open House. Since you may take a tour during your scheduled interview, the Open Houses are not your only chance to see our beautiful school.

Come to Packer for Admissions Tour and Interview (by Fri Jan 18)

Parents/Guardians must first complete the Parent Application through Ravenna before scheduling an interview time for their child(ren). Once our office has viewed the completed Parent Application, the admissions office will reach out to each family to schedule a date and time for your child’s interview.  

During the visit, families will go on a 45-minute tour with a current student upon arrival. 

Following the tour, the applicant will interview one-on-one with an admission officer and then the parents/guardians will have an opportunity to ask questions. No preparation is needed for interview.

Note: Applicants must interview by the January 18 deadline. Please try to schedule you interview early due to the limited number of interview spaces.
