Almost every step of the process begins with logging in to your child's account in Ravenna, our online application tool.
Our procedures vary depending on the grade to which you apply. The lists below walk you through the recommended and required application steps for that grade. We follow The Independent Schools Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) admissions schedule and procedures.

We encourage Pre-K Threes applicant families to register via Ravenna to attend an Open House or Virtual Information Session. At Open Houses you will have an opportunity to tour the Packer Early Learning Center and our main campus as well as meet with Packer faculty and administrators. Open Houses begin promptly at 8:45 am and conclude at 11:00 am. At the Virtual Information Sessions, you will have an opportunity to meet the Admissions team, chat with some community members, view an "Inside Packer" video, and participate in a question-and-answer session. Create a Ravenna account and complete the online application. Once your Parent/Guardian Application, Parent/Guardian Statement, and non-refundable application fee of $125 are submitted, your application will automatically be entered into the lottery pool.
Due: Friday, November 18, 2022. If necessary, we reserve the right to close applications before this date.
Lottery Notification
In early December, Packer will select by lottery a limited number of applicants proportionate to the number of spaces available. These families will be notified via Ravenna and invited to participate in individual virtual parent/child interviews scheduled throughout the month of February.

Reactivating an Application?
The procedure to reactivate a 2020 or 2021 application is the same as outlined here.
Please indicate in Ravenna that your application is a reactivation. No fee is required; just enter the code Reactivation to bypass the application fee.

Lower School
Open spaces in Grades 1 through 4 are very limited. Applications for these grades are automatically placed in an active wait-pool. Interviews will be conducted as spaces become available.

We ask that the parent(s)/guardian(s) fill out the preliminary part of the application (the Parent/Guardian Application) by noon on Tuesday, November 22, 2021. The second part of the application (the Parent/Guardian Statement) is due by noon on Friday, January 12, 2022.
While we are likely to have some space in the 5th Grade, enrollment to the Middle School is solely based on attrition. We encourage families to apply for 6th through 8th Grade with the understanding that attrition is less likely.
The application fee is $60 for families applying to 5th and 6th Grades. This fee is reduced to $30 for families who are applying for financial aid. Please email Sara Goin, at sgoin@packer.edu, for the financial aid waiver code.
Packer will not charge 6th and 8th Grade applicants the $60 application fee unless they are invited for an interview.
Again, since enrollment consideration to the Middle School is attrition-based, we will not be in touch to schedule interviews for 6th through 8th Grade applicants unless the file is complete and we learn of possible openings in those grades.

Packer will host Middle School Open Houses for prospective families on Wednesday, October 19 (from 6:00 to 7:00 pm) and Tuesday, October 25 (from 6:00 to 7:00 pm). Since spaces are limited, we respectfully ask that families register for only one—not both—of these events.

If you choose to sit for a test, Packer requires you to register for either the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) or Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). We accept both the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) and Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Applicants can take either test, or both if they desire. We do not prefer one test over the other — we view both equally.

Applicants must submit teacher evaluation forms from their current math and English/Humanities teachers. Families may additionally have math and English/Humanities teachers from the previous school year submit evaluation forms via Ravenna (these forms will be “in addition to” the current ’22-23 evaluations, not “in lieu of”). Please note that forms that are completed and/or submitted prior to Wednesday October 26, 2022, will not be accepted.
Evaluation forms can be sent straight to their teachers through Ravenna (designate each teacher’s email address in Ravenna). Please give your teachers notice early so they can complete and submit the forms before the application deadline. The teachers completing the evaluation forms must have been teaching the student for at least eight weeks.

School transcripts are required admissions materials. Applicants must submit a full-year transcript from the previous academic year as well as the first-term/fall transcript from the current academic year. Please ask your child's current school to upload transcripts directly to Ravenna.

As we approach the application deadline, it takes time for us to process the incoming applications. We ask that you please be patient and refrain from calling our office to inquire as to your child’s application status. We encourage you to log in to Ravenna periodically to check your file status.
Interview by appointment
*Subject to change based on New York State health guidelines. Thank you for your flexibility in the event of sudden changes in COVID-19 conditions and resulting school guidance.
For applicants to 5th Grade, the Admissions Office will be in touch to schedule an interview after you have submitted the Parent/Guardian Application. Please plan for approximately 90 minutes to complete the tour and interview step, which includes a conversation with parents/guardians.
At the virtual interview, an admission officer will have a one-on-one conversation with the applicant. At the end of the interview, applicants will be given a writing prompt. No preparation is needed for this step.
Parents of prospective students applying to 5th Grade will have an opportunity to chat with the interviewer once their child(ren) have completed the one-on-one interview and are off completing their writing sample.
To be considered, if we learn of potential spaces in the relevant grade for 6th through 8th Grade applicants, you must complete the full application for our review. This includes the following:

To register for the event, log in to Ravenna and reserve a space. Spaces may be limited.
Note: This event is for applicants to the 9th Grade only. You do not need to apply to Packer in order to register/attend an Open House.
Packer Admissions Interview by Appointment Only (In-person for 2022-2023 Admissions Season, unless COVID-19 conditions cause a shift to virtual)
Parents/Guardians must first complete and submit the Parent/Guardian Application through Ravenna. Once our office has viewed the completed Parent/Guardian Application, we will reach out to each family to schedule the interview.

School transcripts are required admissions materials. Applicants must submit a full-year transcript from the previous academic year as well as the first-term/fall transcript from the current academic year. Please ask your child's current school to upload transcripts directly to Ravenna. If they are having trouble uploading transcripts directly to Ravenna, please have them contact Ravenna customer care by sending an email to customercare@ravennasolutions.com.
