Welcome to Packer

We educate students to think deeply, listen actively, speak courageously, and act with purpose and heart

Located in the heart of Brooklyn Heights, Packer is an independent day school offering a Pre-K through 12th Grade program that serves students from New York City, New Jersey, and Long Island. Our PreK-3, PreK-4, and Kindergarten programs are housed at the purpose-built Early Learning Center one block away from our main building at 170 Joralemon Street.

Packer is a diverse community of learners in which each person is valued and challenged. As part of our vision for excellent education, we strive to be knowledgeable, empathetic, and engaged members of an interconnected and dynamic world. At Packer, we balance the head and the heart.

Our Program

From preschool through high school, our academic program inspires joy and purpose through transformative learning experiences that foster both intellectual development and social-emotional growth. We promote rigorous inquiry while prioritizing collaboration, reflection, and continuous improvement. A robust student support system reflects our belief that student wellness and academic excellence are inextricably linked, and that relationships and a sense of belonging create the conditions for deep scholarship and creativity to flourish.

A Diverse, Equitable, and Inclusive Community

Packer has long been committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, to increasing access to a Packer education, and to doing the work to ensure that all students feel they belong.

We seek to enroll students and families who reflect the racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic diversity of New York City, who share Packer’s values of equity, inclusion, and respect, and who wish to learn from the experiences and perspectives of others.

Packer designates 20% of our operating budget for financial aid, regularly awarding over $11 million in tuition assistance to approximately 30% of our students. This represents one of the largest percentages of a school’s annual operating budget in New York City. We also recognize that there are additional costs, beyond tuition and fees, associated with the exceptional education that Packer provides, and are dedicated to assisting all qualifying families with those costs.

Meet Our Directors

Jansen Po
Director of Preschool and Lower School Admissions

Our students encourage me to be an activist instead of a bystander; to reimagine a cardboard box and old bottle caps as a robot; they show me shortcuts around the building when I find myself in a dead end (both literally and figuratively).

I am especially lucky in my job that I feel rewarded all of the time! I love when I take a chance on a student and then see them flourish here.
