College Counseling
At Packer, the college application process is a highly individualized experience that puts students at the center of decision-making.
The goal of our three full-time College Counselors is to support students in determining where they will flourish personally, academically, and socially, and support families in navigating the ever-changing complexities of the college application process. While students work directly with a single counselor, they benefit from the deep experience and wisdom of the entire team, which deliberates on and collectively approves every senior’s final college list with an eye towards balance.
Packer students attend a wide range of outstanding domestic and international colleges and universities. More than 100 college admissions officers visit Packer each year, and all Upper School families are invited to events and information sessions that highlight diverse topics as they relate to the college process.
Addressing the Cost of College
Packer’s College Counseling team offers a comprehensive financial aid workshop series for all families through a partnership with Paul Martin of College Money Method. Paul brings expertise in the broader system of college financial support—both need-based and merit-based—to assist all families in meeting their goals to pay for college.
The partnership provides a 4-year curriculum that breaks down the college finance process into the key information and actions each year. Six workshops for families begin in Ninth Grade and build toward success in the application and selection process for seniors. All workshops offer interactive resources that support families in finding the right financial fit.
