Preschool and Lower School Literacy Coordinator (One Year Interim Role 2021-22 SY)

Start Date: August 2021 

The Packer Collegiate Institute seeks a highly engaged, passionate, innovative, and experienced candidate for a one-year interim Literacy Coordinator position for the Preschool and Lower School division (2021-22).

Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate curriculum development and implementation in all areas of literacy for Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade
  • Provide ongoing instructional and literacy content coaching to teaching faculty
  • Coordinate literacy assessment practices in Pre-Kindergarten through Fourth Grade
  • Identify students with reading and writing needs and consult with the Student Support Team to secure appropriate supports when indicated
  • Plan and lead professional development for Pre and Lower School teaching faculty regarding reading and writing development and instruction
  • Serve as a resource for current research on best practices in literacy instruction
  • Provide ongoing training and support in assessment protocols and practices to Pre and Lower School faculty
  • Develop resources for and communicate with families about how to encourage and support reading and writing development outside of school
  • Meet regularly with Pre and Lower School administration to assess instructional practices and identify curricular needs
  • Present to and consult with Pre and Lower School families on a variety of topics related to literacy development and instruction
  • Connect with external resources regarding professional development opportunities and new literacy initiatives
  • Consult periodically with Middle School teaching faculty to align teaching practices and curricular goals



  • Master’s Degree in Education (Literacy specialization is preferable)
  • At least three years experience as a classroom teacher in early childhood or elementary education
  • Extensive knowledge of assessment and instructional practices in all aspects of literacy development
  • Solid understanding of child development in the preschool, elementary and middle school years
  • Ability to engage in effective collaboration with various members of the school community
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and a sense of humor
  • Solid leadership ability and potential
  • Excellent organizational skills
