Middle and Upper School Choral Director (2022-23 SY.)

Packer Collegiate is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Choral Director to work with our Middle and Upper School students.  The successful candidate will join a highly active and collaborative Arts Department committed to diversity, equity and global competence, and will wish to reflect these qualities in their teaching and repertoire.  Taking responsibility for Choral Singing throughout the Middle and Upper Schools, the holder of this position will foster an appreciation and love of singing, an understanding of its benefits, and a knowledge of its history through a sound pedagogical approach and the charismatic leadership of this vital part of Packer’s Arts program.

The responsibilities for this position include:

  • Teaching all Middle School and Upper School Chorus classes
  • Conducting concert performances and other events
  • Over-seeing student led choral ensembles
  • Seeking internal and external performance opportunities
  • Advising work, comment-writing as required, engaging in in-house Professional Development
  • Attending Department and Divisional meetings

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master’s Degree (or higher) in Music, Music Education or related fields
  • At least 3 years’ experience directing choral ensembles
  • Proficiency in current best practices in Music Education
  • A commitment to anti-bias and anti-racism work both inside and outside the classroom as well as promoting an inclusive, just, and equitable school community
  • A wide knowledge of diverse choral repertoire and resources
  • A genuine desire to collaborate with colleagues
  • A sincere and visible commitment to excellent teaching, utilization of best music teaching practices, and continued professional development
  • Comfort with and interest in working with students in an advisory capacity
