Communications Specialist (Videographer, Immediate)

Packer is looking for a Communications Specialist to join the Communications Office. Our three-person communications team works to convey the mission and programs of the School through engaging, informative, and timely content, consistent with the school’s strategic communications goals. The Communications Specialist is a full-time, non-exempt, year-round staff position, and reports to the Director of Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Photography and Videography: Shoot, edit, and produce high-quality photos and video. Identify and document compelling events, classes, and the Packer environment. Conduct video interviews of Packer community members. Develop concepts and scripts for freelance photographers and videographers, as needed.  
  • Writing: Write and edit magazine and website stories about school events, classes, and curriculum, and community members. Conduct interviews and develop written profiles of community members. Write and edit letters, announcements and invitations, promotional copy, and other content for Development, Admissions, and other departments and programs.
  • Social Media: Create fresh, engaging content for Packer’s social media feeds, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Collaborate with and guide other departments’ and programs’ use of social media, including Athletics, Arts, and Alumni.
  • Digital Asset Management: Edit and maintain a growing database of photo and video assets. 
  • Email Communications: Edit, produce, and send newsletters, and create newsletter templates. Support other departments and programs in creating and sending email newsletters.
  • Website Management: Create, curate, upload, maintain, and manage editorial and operational content for the Packer website. Provide website support to other departments. Knowledge of Finalsite’s Composer 2 module helpful.
  • Emergency Communications Management: Support Director of Communications with emergency communications as needed.

Skills and Qualifications: 

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a related field (digital media, video editing and/or video production, marketing/communications, journalism, public relations) or commensurate work-related experience, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting. Candidates must have demonstrated abilities to produce and edit high-quality writing, digital photography, and videography. The successful candidate will have demonstrated attention to detail, a strong work ethic, excellent verbal and visual communication skills, and an eagerness to develop new skills and refine existing ones, as well as be able to balance independent self-management with collaboration.

Other requirements include: proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro; Adobe Creative Cloud (particularly Photoshop, Lightroom and InDesign); content management and digital asset management systems; Hootsuite; Google Analytics; and Google Suite or Microsoft Office. HTML, Finalsite, and/or Veracross proficiency are helpful.

Travel Requirements: The ability to cover afternoon and evening events as well as occasional off-campus day trips is also required.

References should address the candidate’s standard of work and work ethic, ability to meet deadlines, and ability to work collaboratively, effectively, and harmoniously with other adults.
