Associate Teacher (First Grade; Temporary Leave Coverage)

The Packer Collegiate Institute is an independent co-educational PreK - 12 school in beautiful Brooklyn Heights.  Packer’s mission and core values influence everything we do — in our classrooms, on stage, in the art studio, or on the field, whether it is locally or globally.

A deeply collaborative faculty and staff — our ideals, our passions, and our work ethic — makes all the difference to students. We embrace the learning process for them as well as for ourselves, as we continuously hone our own areas of expertise and work to deepen the role each of us plays at Packer.

Great teachers love what they do and create great experiences for their students. Our collective goal is to help our students develop the knowledge, skills, and habits of mind that will inspire them to pursue lives of purpose. We don’t just educate young people; we strive to transform their lives so that they may transform the world.

We are seeking a caring and enthusiastic Associate Teacher for family leave coverage in one of our First Grade classes for the 2022-23 school year.  This position will begin mid December and end in March.

At Packer, our Associate teachers are regarded as teachers-in-training and are given several opportunities to grow professionally.  The role of the Associate Teacher grows as they gain knowledge and experience, gradually taking on more teaching responsibilities over the course of the year.

Associate Teachers work closely with Head Teachers to create a rich and stimulating learning community for our students. Duties include planning and conducting small group or whole class lessons, assessing and documenting students’ needs, monitoring the children at recess, and supporting the Head Teachers in the daily maintenance of the classroom.

Candidates must possess a passion for working with young children, excellent communication skills, a warm and engaging personality, and a demonstrated commitment to teaching. A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Packer is deeply committed to diversity and an inclusive curriculum and community. We actively encourage applications from candidates with broad and diverse backgrounds and from individuals of all races, nationalities, and beliefs.

Please send a cover letter and resume to hr@Packer.edu with "Job Posting 12003" in the subject line of the e-mail. Salary range $48,000-$52,000 prorated for leave.
