Know Your Pelicans
What is your favorite thing about Packer?
My favorite things about Packer are our vibrant community and our commitment to diversity. And most of all, our intensely dedicated faculty members, who pursue innovative teaching methods to develop open-minded critical thinkers and who deeply engage with our students so they can discover their true potential. My daughter has been at Packer since Kindergarten and is currently in 9th Grade, and as a parent, I couldn't wish for anything better.
Describe a favorite or memorable moment in your classroom at Packer.
I have a memorable moment every day when I watch such happy students walking through our hallways. A true testament to the "joy of learning!"
Name a work of art, literature, or music that changed your life and explain how.
Music, art, and literature play a very important role in my life, but in retrospect there are a few works that have had a huge impact in my life and left an indelible mark in shaping the person I am today. The music of Nina Simone, the artwork of Anselm Kiefer, and the writings of William Shakespeare, Franz Kafka, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Gabriel García Márquez, and Arundhati Roy. My deep connections with these narratives made me feel that I belonged to the world and aided me in furthering my understanding of human nature.
What is something that most Packer people wouldn't know about you?
Before I was a teacher of English and Spanish as a second language, I was an artist. I earned my Bachelors and Masters of Fine Arts in New York City and mainly worked as a mixed-media sculptor.
