Physical Education Teacher
Know Your Pelicans
What do you teach? What is one of your favorite parts of the curriculum?
I teach Physical Education K-12. I really enjoy teaching the Project Adventure activities in our Middle and Upper School PE curriculum. It's a chance to change the pace of the class, and bring some outdoor, adventure based challenges inside. These activities require cooperation, communication, patience, and risk-taking. They provide a great opportunity for a range of students to shine, and flex their leadership muscles in a variety of different ways.
Tell us about a time you learned something from our students.
I think it's important as teachers to remember what it's like to be a student. Every time I find myself facing a new challenge, whether it's a new role or just a new physical activity, taking on something that is unfamiliar can be both exciting and unnerving. I remind myself that students probably feel like this every day.
What's one thing you love about your colleagues?
One of the greatest things about working at Packer is the opportunity to learn from colleagues. The energy, the enthusiasm, and the dedication to be found across all disciplines and divisions are inspiring!
What is your favorite space at Packer?
My favorite space is probably outside the building — the Garden. Even though I'm surrounded by students all day, if I need a moment to reset or recharge, or if I realize that I haven't looked outside all day, I head to the Garden and watch the Lower School kids having fun. The energy and the joy are infectious!
