Director of Global Learning and Community Engagement
Know Your Pelicans
What is your official role at Packer and what does it mean? What do you do every day?
I'm the Director of Global Learning and Community Engagement, and a 7th grade advisor. This year I will be learning as much as I can about the Global and Community Engagement programs by working with and talking with faculty, staff and students. I am excited to visit classrooms, attend Packer games and events, and really get to know the rhythms and culture of the school.
Why did you choose to work at Packer?
From the first interview I knew that Packer was a special place that valued relationships and connection. I was also excited to be a part of a team that valued global learning and community engagement and was deeply committed to developing programs that live into the mission and values of the school.
What work have you done prior to joining Packer?
Over the years, I have been so lucky to have been able to weave teaching and science research together. I have worked on research projects in Ecuador, Costa Rica, Michigan, Florida and Riverside park all while teaching. I have even been able to include my students and fellow teachers on some of those projects! Most recently I was at the Trinity School and I was an Upper School Science teacher (Biology/Advanced Research), Director of the UPenn Teaching Fellows Program, and a Service Coordinator.
Where did you go to school?
I have a B.S. in Education from Miami University; a M.S. in Natural Science from the University of Wyoming; and a M.S. in Entomology from Michigan State University.
What are your impressions of Packer so far? Our students? Your colleagues?
From my first day at Packer, I have been welcomed with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. The community is excited to be here and truly love Packer! It is going to be a wonderful place to work and I am honored to be a part of this community.
What's something that most people at Packer wouldn't know about you?
If you have an entomological question - send it my way! I love helping people identify and learn more about insects. I find them endlessly fascinating and love to talk about them!
What do you love to do when you're not working at Packer?
I love to travel and it is where I find renewal, relaxation and it is a source of deep learning. I also am a committed yoga practicer and runner. I try to work one or both activities into my day.
