Know Your Pelicans
What are your impressions of Packer so far? Our students? Your colleagues?
Packer faculty and staff do serious work, but they don't take themselves too seriously. I love being able to laugh with my students and colleagues. It's good for my health.
What do you teach? What is one of your favorite parts of the curriculum?
My favorite part of the curriculum is how the students are so game to launch from the pages of a text and the guiding questions to relevant topics and concepts from other disciplines and then back again.
Why do you teach? What do you like about being a teacher?
I teach because I have a love of learning, and I have a love of cultivating leadership in young people. What do I like about being a teacher? I mean, have you ever talked to a teenager? they're terrifyingly smart and insightful!
Well us about a time you learned something from our students.
I learned that the kids in my Grade 8 English class are amazing performers in the Middle School Beauty and the Beast performance!
Outside of your job at Packer, what do you love to do?
Hot yoga, watch the Philadelphia 76ers, daydream.
Tell us about a specific time you found your job especially rewarding.
I love meeting the parents of my students at curriculum night, conferences, musicals, games, and Pumpkin Patch. The Packer parent community is really supportive!
Besides your subject, what's something you hope to teach your students?
I hope I teach students to be kind to others and to themselves and to act with integrity.
What are the strengths of your department?
Sense of playfulness and seriousness.
