Know Your Pelicans
What do you teach? What is one of your favorite parts of the curriculum?
I teach Spanish 1, 2 and 5. One of my favorite parts of teaching here is teaching Spanish Five. We get to explore the history and culture of all the contributions of the African Latino community in the Caribbean. I love the subject matter and having the opportunity to teach it to my students.
What is something that most Packer people wouldn't know about you?
I am a certified power vinyasa yoga teacher. I am also an actor who has been on several TV shows and off-Broadway plays. Currently, I am playing Horatio in an off-Broadway version of Hamlet that opens April 6. I was also once the Director of Outreach for our current United States Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, when she was the Governor of Rhode Island.
What are the strengths of your department?
I think the strength of our department is its diversity.
What are your impressions of Packer so far? Our students? Your colleagues?
Packer is a wonderful community filled with amazing students who love to learn. It is such a joy to teach such curious young minds.
Besides your subject, what's something you hope to teach your students?
I hope to teach my students the value of respecting differing opinions in a classroom.
If you had an inspirational fridge magnet, what would it say and why?
I do have one and it says "Let go or be dragged."
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would want the ability to memorize lines and or languages without studying them!
