Know Your Pelicans

What is your favorite thing about Packer?

The students!

Describe a favorite or memorable moment in your classroom at Packer.

One of my favorite Packer traditions is Packer in Action Day. Last year, a group of Middle School students led our Kindergartners in an art project and discussion about identity — gender, race, ethnicity, religion, socio-economic status and more. Talking about how these identifiers intersected to make each of them unique was so affirming for all of the children. The confidence, patience and tenderness with which the Middle School students led the activity reaffirmed for me why it's so fantastic to be a member of this community.

Name a book/artwork/piece of music that changed your life and explain how.

As a child in Texas, I attended weekly cotillions, which were essentially ball room dance classes for kids. At the end of every cotillion, they would play "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra. Listening to that song, I fell in love with the idea of New York and dreamt of living in the city. I moved to New York 15 years ago and love it every bit as much as I thought I would.

What is something that most Packer people wouldn't know about you?

I was the captain of the debate team in high school.
