Know Your Pelicans
What is your favorite thing about Packer?
When I reflect on my time at Packer, I consider the relationships that I've made with both my colleagues and my students to be the most memorable. Having the space and time dedicated to creating and collaborating with one another allows you to see each other through a different lens. I also love that I have the opportunity and privilege to work with students ranging from the Puppies all the way through our Seniors.
Describe a favorite or memorable moment in your classes at Packer.
I recently had a 1st Grade class ask to do their Spooky Dance with no assistance or cues from me (I usually direct from the sidelines). They looked to one another as they made their way through the dance, listening and watching as the movements unfolded. The pride and ownership that the students felt after that experience was truly profound.
Name a work of art, literature, music, or film that you hold dear and explain its influence on you.
"Walk That Dinosaur" by Was (Not Was) was the first piece of music that I choreographed a dance to. I was in Fourth Grade and was asked by the director of the musical to create a dance to teach to the Fifth Graders. Needless to say it was quite intimidating to be teaching something to kids older than me, but I relished the process and knew from that time that I wanted to immerse myself in the performing arts.
What is something that most Packer people wouldn't know about you?
I used to be an avid boxer, and I make a mean chocolate cake!
