Associate Director of Middle and Upper School Admissions
Know Your Pelicans
As Associate Director of Middle and Upper School Admissions, what do you do for Packer?
I recruit, interview, and enroll prospective families for grades 5 through 12.
Tell us about a time you learned something from our students.
I am constantly learning from my students. From Science Research Project presentations, to Senior Independent Studies, to the recently created forums and workshops around race, gender, sexuality, etc., I’ve learned how knowledgeable and thoughtful our students truly are. They bring a passion to their everyday lives at Packer that is not mirrored in many other places.
Besides your subject, what’s something you hope to teach your students?
I hope to teach my students to never lose their passion. We have some of the most dynamic, well-rounded students in the entire city, and I hope they continue creating, challenging others and being a strong voice for the issues they support in the broader world.
If you had an inspirational fridge magnet (and we’re not saying you would), what would it say and why?
“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.” -Malcolm X
At Packer we strive to prepare our students for the next step in their lives and we give them space to learn in many capacities. Education can take many shapes, all of which are essential for the growth of each individual. Reading, traveling, taking risks-- these are ways in which we can educate ourselves to prepare for tomorrow. As part of the Packer community, we are fortunate to have numerous outlets that allow us to receive education at remarkably deep levels, which I believe prepare us for whatever’s next. I pride myself on furthering my learning on a daily basis, because I believe that to be an effective educator, one must continue one's own personal education.
