Urashima Taro
By Coleman A. Jennings
Directed by Dinah Gravel
"The Lion King underwater" is the best way to describe
the Middle School’s spring production of "Urashima Taro." Puppets and
Japanese Theatre techniques are used to tell the classic Japanese folk
tale of Urashima Taro, a poor fisherman, who saves the life of an
ancient sea turtle, and is rewarded with a journey to a fantastic
undersea world. Under the sea, he meets wondrous creatures, and battles
a giant sea dragon. But, when he returns to his home, eighty years have
passed, and he faces an even greater challenge.
