Pre & Lower School Admissions Procedures

(for admission to academic year 2014-2015)

The admisions season begins September 3, 2013 for the 2014-15 school year. To submit an application, find the "Apply Today" link within the below Admissions Procedures. The deadline to submit an application is Monday December 2, 2013.

If the number of applications received in certain grades become disproportionate to the number of spaces available, Packer may close (stop accepting) applications prior to the stated deadlines. Please refer to this page for important deadline changes and admissions notifications. Our Open Houses are held in the fall and early winter.

Pre-K Threes Program Admissions Procedures

The admissions season begins September 3, 2013 for the 2014-15 school year. To submit an application, find the "Apply Today" link below. The deadline to submit an application is Monday, December 2, 2013.

Packer will select, by lottery, a limited number of applications proportionate to the number of spaces actually available. The families pulled from the lottery will be invited to participate in our playgroup interviews in January 2013.

Age cut-off: Three (3) by August 31, 2014

  • Application submission online
    From the Apply Today page, begin the online application by creating a new account with a personal username and password. Fill out the online application and submit. Once submitted, we will contact you in September (but not before) to confirm that your child’s application will be part of the lottery conducted in early December 2012. If the Admissions team has not contacted you within two weeks after submitting your application, please feel free to call Yvonne Menard at (718) 250-0254.   • Application fee
    • The non-refundable application fee of $125 can be paid online by credit card.
    • If payment is made by check or money order, please download and complete the accompanying payment slip, and be sure to write your child’s name and grade applying to on the slip.

We would appreciate you submitting a current photograph of your child that you may upload through Packer's online admissions site. The photographs are used to help the admissions team remember the applicants after their visit to the school. They are confidential and are not used for selection.

Lottery notification in December 2013
You will receive a letter informing you of the lottery results in early December 2013.

If pulled from lottery: Parent/child playgroup interview in January 2014
You will receive a letter inviting you and your child to participate in our playgroup interview conducted on a Saturday in January 2014. The playgroup consists of a visit by you and your child to a preschool classroom. A group of six to eight children will explore the materials set out for them, while the Admissions team and teachers observe and interact with the children at play. The play session will aid in determining the child’s developmental readiness for school as well as to ensure the creation of a balanced class. The playgroup will approximately take one hour.

Pre-K Fours Program Admissions Procedures

The admissions season begins September 3, 2013 for the 2014-15 school year. To submit an application, find the "Apply Today" link below. The deadline to submit an application is Monday, December 2, 2013.

The Pre-K Fours Program is not a traditional entry year at Packer, therefore, availability of new spaces is contingent upon attritions occurring throughout the year. Your application will be placed on a waiting list until spaces become available.

Age cut-off: Four (4) by August 31, 2014

First Grade is a small entry year at Packer, therefore, applications will be accepted and placed on an active waiting list. Interviews will be conducted as spaces become available.
