Cordy Ryman ’90

School Daze

An installation of new work

Curated by Ken Rush

CORDY RYMAN transforms the gallery with his exciting, whimsical and playful installation. Mr. Ryman creates both stand alone works and site-specific installations. A May 6, 2005, review by Roberta Smith of the New York Times described one of his installations: “His casual, hands-on, irreverent formalism features strong monochromes — fluorescent pink, for example — painted on scraps of wood and installed in corners, on the ceiling or on doorjambs. More conventional works, executed on squarish slabs of wood or Styrofoam, tend to have unpainted places that indicate where the artist held the piece while he was painting it. A sectional piece leans against the wall like a fat, folding measuring stick.” Mr. Ryman is an alumnus and Packer parent.

One Perspective/Two Worlds:

Mexico/Coney Island

Photographs By Harvey Stein

Curated by Elizabeth Eagle

HARVEY STEIN presents dual collections of photographic prints: Coney Island (1970-1997), and Mexico (1993-2004). "Both are long term projects, something that I specialize in," says Mr. Stein. "While the subjects are worlds apart physically, I think I bring the same perspective to both places through the singularity of my vision and approach to seeing and shooting. Both are shot with the same camera, the same intensity and focus, the same edgy quality. And the attempt to transform reality into a more subjective look at the world. Hence, the title of the exhibit, One Perspective/Two Worlds."
